Arendal Sound Revamps Its 1961 Series for High-Fidelity and Home Cinema Excellence

Norwegian speaker manufacturer Arendal Sound has unveiled a refreshed version of its popular 1961 Series, an entry-level speaker lineup designed to deliver high-performance audio for both hi-fi and home theater enthusiasts.

A Scandinavian Approach to Sound Innovation

Founded in 2015, Arendal Sound has quickly gained recognition in the audio industry, following in the footsteps of other renowned Scandinavian speaker brands. With a strong emphasis on precision, dynamics, and build quality, the company aims to provide premium sound at competitive price points.

After a two-year pause, the 1961 Series returns with a lineup of eight models, including floorstanding and bookshelf speakers, along with center, height, monitor, and surround speakers. The range is completed by two subwoofer options—the Subwoofer 1V and Subwoofer 1S—which promise deep, powerful bass performance typically associated with higher-end systems.

Technology Borrowed from Premium Models

The redesigned 1961 Series incorporates advanced features from Arendal's flagship 1723 Series, ensuring high-caliber sound reproduction. Key technologies include waveguide tweeters and custom-engineered drivers, designed to enhance clarity, efficiency, and dynamic range. The speakers also feature high-density fiberboard (HDF) cabinets, which reduce unwanted resonance and distortion.

A notable advantage of the 1961 Series is its modular flexibility, allowing users to mix and match different models while maintaining a cohesive sound signature—ideal for those building a complete home theater setup.

Detailed Look at Core Models

The 1961 Tower, the series’ floorstanding option, features a 2.5-way speaker design, equipped with a 28mm soft-dome waveguide tweeter and custom 14cm long-fiber pulp drivers. It also includes a sealable bass port and stabilizing floor spikes to improve low-frequency control and stability.

The 1961 Bookshelf follows a two-way design, housing the same 28mm soft-dome tweeter alongside a 14cm pulp-cone driver, making it a compact yet powerful option for stereo and home cinema applications.

CEO Jan Ove Lassesen emphasizes that the new lineup is designed to deliver high-quality music and movie audio without compromise. "Whether you’re looking for your first Arendal experience or expanding an existing setup, the 1961 Series proves that exceptional sound doesn't have to come with trade-offs," he states.
