Chord’s Suzi: A Modular Streaming Amp Built for the Hugo 2 + 2go Duo

Silver and black audio units labeled "Suzi" with glowing blue buttons. One unit shows the "CHORD" logo. Minimalist white background.

British hi-fi innovator Chord Electronics has officially launched Suzi, a compact and modular amplifier system designed for audiophiles who want high-end performance in a smaller footprint. First teased at Munich High-End 2024, the final production version is now ready—bringing streaming, headphone listening, vinyl, and serious loudspeaker power into a sleek, stackable design.

Modular by Design

At the heart of the system is the Suzi Amp, a 30W-per-channel ULTIMA-based power amplifier (8 Ohms) crafted by Chord's own John Franks. Output power for 4 Ohms hasn’t been disclosed, but the amp promises audiophile-grade performance in a minimalist form.

Around back, you'll find banana plug-only Naim-style speaker connectors, but the real story is on top. Slide off the protective cap to reveal a modular bay—ready to dock either:

  • The Suzi Pre (for analog and vinyl lovers), or

  • The Hugo 2 + 2go combo (for streamers and digital-first users)

Suzi Pre: Vinyl, Line, and Headphones

Snap on the optional Suzi Pre (£1995), and you unlock full preamp functionality:

  • 3 analogue inputs

  • Built-in MM/MC phono stage with customizable gain and impedance

  • Volume control, a remote, and both 3.5mm + 6.4mm headphone outputs

All topped with tactile, top-panel controls for those who like a hands-on experience.

Streaming Setup: Hugo 2 + 2go

Prefer streaming? Remove the Pre and dock Chord’s Hugo 2 DAC and 2go streamer. This transforms Suzi into a fully integrated streaming amplifier, compatible with:

  • Roon Ready

  • Apple AirPlay

  • UPnP

  • Bluetooth

However, no support for Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, or Qobuz Connect—a limitation for some modern streamers.

Smart Charging & USB Expansion

To keep the Hugo 2 powered while docked, Chord includes a “charging bridge”. This neat accessory powers the DAC even when the amp is off, and also adds a 5V USB-C output for charging other gear.

Want broader connectivity? The optional USB Multiplexer (£300) converts the Hugo 2’s dual microUSB ports into USB-B and USB-C data/charging inputs, auto-switching based on the active connection.

Pricing & Availability

  • Suzi Amp: £3400

  • Suzi Pre: £1995

  • USB Multiplexer: £300

  • Available in black or silver

  • Proudly made in the UK

Bottom Line

With Suzi, Chord Electronics isn’t just offering an amp—it’s launching a system. Whether you’re a vinyl enthusiast, a headphone listener, or a digital streamer, Suzi adapts to your setup. Yes, it’s an investment—but for those seeking compact, audiophile-grade performance with modular flexibility, Suzi hits a sweet spot between innovation and execution.
