FiiO’s 2026 Desktop Roadmap: Class A Purism, R2R Evolution and a Push Into Gaming

From a pure Class A amplifier to a next-gen R2R flagship and even a gaming-focused amp, FiiO’s 2026 desktop lineup reveals a brand balancing nostalgia, engineering reality and market expansion.

In the latest update from company founder James, FiiO outlined its 2026 plans for desktop DACs and headphone amplifiers — and started with a surprisingly candid discussion about product lifecycles.

Why Audio Gear Can’t Stay the Same Forever

Users often complain about rapid product updates. Buy something today, and six months later, there’s a “new and improved” version.

From a manufacturer’s standpoint? That’s not ideal either.

FiiO openly admits the dream scenario would be like Coca-Cola or Pepsi — timeless products, minimal R&D reinvestment, stable margins. But audio doesn’t work that way.

Why?

Because:

  1. There’s no monopoly.

  2. Technology keeps evolving.

  3. Desktop audio isn’t high-turnover like fast-moving consumer goods.

However, not all audio categories evolve at the same speed. Android-based DAPs update frequently due to chipsets and OS revisions. Desktop DACs and amplifiers? Much slower. They rely on decoding and amplification — technologies that have largely matured.

With that context, here’s what FiiO has planned for 2026.

CLASS A: A Pure, Old-School Amplifier

Yes — the product is literally called FiiO CLASS A.

And it does exactly what the name implies.

Why Class A?

FiiO identifies two motivations:

1️⃣ Retro Sound Philosophy

Since 2025, FiiO has shifted toward balancing measurement-driven fidelity with listening enjoyment. Like R2R DACs and tube amps, pure Class A is considered niche — valued for:

  • Warm timbre

  • Smooth presentation

  • Musical richness

But it comes with trade-offs

:

  • High heat output

  • Low efficiency

  • Lower measured performance compared to Class AB

  • Higher power consumption

This isn’t a spec-chasing amplifier. It’s built for enthusiasts who prioritize experience over measurement charts.

2️⃣ Completing the Product Ecosystem

FiiO has historically focused on all-in-one DAC/amp units like:

  • K5 Pro

  • K7

  • K9 / K9 Pro

  • K11

  • K13

  • K15

  • K17

  • K19

But after launching standalone products like the WARMER DAC and SR11 streaming receiver — and with the DP11 desktop CD player planned — a pure amplifier became necessary.

What CLASS A Offers

  • Pure Class A amplification circuit

  • Linear power supply

  • Single-ended and balanced outputs

  • Treble and bass controls

  • Gain adjustment

  • Volume control

  • No built-in DAC

Important caveat:It runs hot. Always. That’s the nature of pure Class A.

Expected launch: July 2026Price: Under RMB 2,500

Not recommended for casual users — clearly aimed at purists.

K17 R2R: Retro Flagship, Evolved

Next comes the FiiO K17 R2R, another entry in FiiO’s #HIFIRetro series.

Functionally, it mirrors the standard K17 — but swaps in FiiO’s newly developed R2R PRO architecture.

What’s New?

Compared to earlier R2R implementations in:

  • K11 R2R

  • K13 R2R

The K17 R2R uses:

  • A larger array of high-precision resistors

  • A more powerful FPGA

  • Refined algorithm control

  • Thermometer-code current-mode DA conversion

The goal:Reduce distortion caused by resistor precision limits and improve:

  • Linearity

  • Small-signal dynamics

  • Overall measured performance

Expected release: July 2026Price: Similar to the standard K17

K13 (Delta-Sigma Version)

While the K13 R2R was a strong seller in 2025, FiiO acknowledges a key reality:

Under identical conditions, modern Delta-Sigma DACs still measure better.

They typically deliver:

  • Higher resolution

  • Blacker backgrounds

  • Stronger measurable dynamics

So the standard FiiO K13 will use a mainstream DAC architecture, maintaining similar design and functionality as the R2R model — but targeting users who prioritize measured performance over analog-style tonality.

Planned release: November 2026Pricing: Similar to K13 R2R

KG13: Enter the Gaming Market

Perhaps the most strategic move is the FiiO KG13.

This marks FiiO’s official entry into gaming audio peripherals.

Why gaming?

Because the esports and gaming audio market is significantly larger than traditional hi-fi.

Interestingly, FiiO notes that members of North American esports team Lazarus previously used the E10K with their headphones — suggesting crossover appeal already exists.

The KG13 aims to:

  • Deliver cost-effective performance

  • Appeal to esports enthusiasts

  • Expand FiiO’s footprint beyond traditional audiophiles

Tentative release: September 2026Price: Under RMB 1,000

The Bigger Picture: A Split Strategy

FiiO’s 2026 desktop roadmap reveals a dual-direction strategy:

For Audiophile Purists

  • Pure Class A amplification

  • Advanced R2R decoding

  • Retro-inspired sonic character

For Broader Markets

  • Gaming-focused amplification

  • Cost-conscious performance

Rather than racing toward endless feature stacking, FiiO appears to be diversifying:

  • Separate DACs

  • Separate amplifiers

  • Streaming units

  • CD players

  • Gaming products

It’s less about chasing specs — and more about building a layered ecosystem.

Final Thoughts

FiiO’s 2026 desktop lineup isn’t about rapid iteration. It’s about deliberate expansion:

  • A bold pure Class A statement piece

  • A technically refined R2R flagship

  • A measured-performance Delta-Sigma alternative

  • A strategic gaming entry point

In a market where desktop DACs and amps are nearing technological maturity, differentiation increasingly comes down to philosophy, tuning and ecosystem strategy.

And for 2026, FiiO seems determined to explore all three.
