Blomprakt kicks off a new era in Ikea's speaker line — simpler, cheaper, and designed for the many, not the few.

From Symfonisk to Simplicity
Ikea has officially pivoted away from its eight-year partnership with Sonos, instead embracing a new speaker strategy focused on Bluetooth, Spotify Tap, and budget-friendly design. Leading the charge is the newly unveiled Blomprakt speaker lamp — a €100 (sub-$120) all-in-one Bluetooth speaker with a built-in LED bulb and dedicated Spotify playback controls.
This new approach isn’t just about dropping prices. It’s about removing complexity, according to Ikea lighting and home electronics range manager David Granath:
“Our aim is to make sound accessible, functional, and enjoyable — without adding complexity.”
Meet Blomprakt: A Speaker in Disguise
Part lamp, part speaker, the Blomprakt offers Ikea’s characteristic fusion of form and function. Its key features include:
Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity
Spotify Tap button for one-touch streaming (even without a premium account)
Integrated LED bulb
Estimated price under €100 / $120
Color-matching designs to blend into various interiors
This follows the recent release of the colorful Nattbad Bluetooth speaker ($49.99), part of Ikea’s strategy to bring music into homes through multi-functional and affordable hardware.
Spotify Tap & Simpler Streaming
A defining feature of this new generation is the Spotify Tap button, previously introduced in 2022’s Vappeby speaker lamp. One press resumes where you left off, a second press cues a new track. No app required, no paid subscription necessary — though you’ll need a Spotify account to use the feature.
For everyone else, traditional Bluetooth pairing remains available, along with multi-speaker syncing for room-filling mono audio — no stereo pairing or surround support, but perfect for casual home use.

The Future: Matter, Multipacks, and Mixed Nuts
This speaker reboot aligns with Ikea’s broader commitment to Matter, the smart home standard poised to simplify device integration across brands. However, true Matter-compatible speakers remain in the distant future, as the Connectivity Standards Alliance continues development.
Still, the design-first thinking Ikea is known for remains strong. A sneak peek shared with The Verge revealed a circular, battery-powered Bluetooth speaker that hovers over a tray — perfect for keys, phones, or snacks. It’s a sign of Ikea’s ongoing effort to embed speakers into everyday furniture.
End of Sonos Era — Without the Drama
When asked about the Sonos split, Granath emphasized mutual success and a graceful conclusion:
“We had achieved what we set out to do… it wasn’t more dramatic than that.”
But the subtext is clear: Symfonisk speakers — priced from $180 to nearly $270 — no longer fit Ikea’s goal of serving "the many people." Granath put it bluntly:
“When you have to sell a speaker for over €200, you exclude a lot of people.”
Instead, Ikea will focus on its own Bluetooth-based ecosystem — with “up to ten new speakers” arriving in January 2026, many under the design direction of Tekla Evelina Severin (aka Teklan).

Ikea’s Audio Strategy: Key Takeaways
What’s Next
The Blomprakt lands in October, with a new wave of Bluetooth speakers launching in January 2026. While high-end, Wi-Fi-enabled whole-home audio fans may feel left behind for now, Ikea’s design-savvy and budget-conscious new lineup promises music for more rooms — and more people.
Until then, it’s clear that Ikea’s next audio chapter will be shaped by affordability, versatility, and seamless Spotify playback — not audiophile purism.
