A Hi-Fi Icon Reimagined

KEF, the legendary British hi-fi manufacturer, has just unveiled the second-generation Muo portable Bluetooth speaker — a revival of its 2015 classic, now rebuilt with modern engineering and inspired by the design of KEF’s $225,000 Muon loudspeakers.

Best known today for its award-winning LS50 Wireless II and LSX II active speakers, KEF is returning to the portable scene with a product that merges audiophile credibility with real-world toughness.

Premium Build Meets Portability

The new Muo retains its sculptural form but is now crafted from a mix of premium aluminum and recycled plastic, giving it both elegance and eco-conscious durability.

It boasts an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust, water, and the elements — perfect for everything from the living room to the great outdoors.

Serious Sound in a Small Package

Inside, KEF has completely re-engineered the drivers and acoustic tech:

  • Dedicated tweeter + racetrack mid/bass driver deliver sharp highs and full-bodied mids.

  • Orientation-aware design: sounds great whether vertical or horizontal.

  • Stereo pairing: link two Muos for a true left/right hi-fi setup.

KEF also brings in tech borrowed from its higher-end products, including:

  • P-Flex Surround Technology from its KC92 subwoofers.

  • DSP algorithms like Dynamic Bass Boost from the flagship LS60 Wireless.

The result? A surprisingly powerful bass performance for such a compact speaker.

Modern Features, Classic Simplicity

While it’s a straight Bluetooth speaker (no Wi-Fi like Sonos Roam), the Muo comes packed with modern touches:

  • USB-C wired playback for direct connection to smartphones or laptops.

  • Auracast support for grouping multiple speakers into a multi-room system.

  • KEF Connect app integration, letting you tweak EQ and settings.

Battery life is equally impressive: 24 hours of playback on a single charge, with fast charging that gives 3 hours of music in just 15 minutes.

Price and Availability

The KEF Muo (2nd Gen) is priced at $250 — $100 less than the original model when it launched in 2015.

It comes in seven finishes: Silver Dusk, Amber Haze, Orange Moon, Blue Aura, Moss Green, Cocoa Brown, and Midnight Black, each paired with a matching strap.

  • General release: September 30, 2025.

  • Early access: Available now for myKEF members (free to join).

In short: KEF has resurrected its iconic portable speaker with modern durability, cutting-edge acoustic tech, and a design pedigree rooted in six-figure loudspeakers — all for a surprisingly approachable price.
