Pro-Ject Unveils Its Most Advanced Turntable Ever — The Signature 12.2

Handcrafted engineering, over 100 CNC-machined parts, and a jaw-dropping £10,599 price tag make this flagship deck a true statement in vinyl playback.

A New Pinnacle in Pro-Ject’s Legacy

Austrian hi-fi brand Pro-Ject has officially launched its most ambitious creation to date: the Signature 12.2 turntable, now available in the UK through Henley Audio. Previously shown in prototype form, this flagship model arrives alongside the also-premium Classic Reference, both designed to elevate vinyl playback to uncompromising new heights.

The Signature 12.2 is described as Pro-Ject’s “most advanced” turntable ever built — a culmination of decades of precision engineering, cutting-edge design, and artisanal craftsmanship.

Signature 12.2: Built Like a Sculpture, Engineered Like a Machine

At the heart of the Signature 12.2 lies an extraordinary build process:

  • Crafted from over 100 CNC-machined parts, with every metal surface hand-polished for two days before assembly.

  • A hand-painted MDF chassis, finished in 10 layers of piano-black lacquer, combines luxury with function. Its rounded edges aren’t just aesthetic — they actively reduce standing waves to improve sound clarity.

  • Spring-loaded, conical-tipped feet ensure perfect leveling and isolation.

The 10.5kg aluminium platter is precision-balanced, topped with a mat made from recycled vinyl records, and rides on an inverted ceramic ball bearing with magnetic support for near-silent operation.

The newly designed 12-inch aluminium tonearm with a three-point pivot bearing offers greater stability and minimal friction, letting cartridges extract every last detail from your vinyl collection.

The Classic Reference: A Refined Greatest Hits

Alongside the Signature 12.2 comes The Classic Reference — a limited-edition turntable that blends highlights from Pro-Ject’s past designs. Borrowing from the Classic EVO and VPO 175 Vienna Philharmonic Edition, it delivers a high-end but more accessible option:

  • Outfitted with the EVO 9 AS HG tonearm featuring ultra-low friction ABEC-7 bearings.

  • A precision-machined aluminium platter damped with TPE for resonance control.

  • An MDF/aluminium sandwich chassis with TPE-suspended sub-chassis for isolation.

  • Both RCA outputs and balanced XLR sockets, ready for high-performance setups.

Both decks use a precision DC-driven AC generator to power the motor, ensuring a clean

sine wave and stable speed control.

Handmade in Europe, Designed for Audiophiles

Like all Pro-Ject flagships, both turntables are handmade in Europe and compatible with the company’s True Balanced cabling, unlocking maximum performance for moving coil cartridges.
